Position summary

Direct Support Professionals (DSP) are responsible for assisting in the supervision and/or goals/training of members diagnosed with Intellectual Developmental Delays. This is a one-on-one service with a IDD member. This is a therapeutic relationship, which is to assist the individual in therapy to change his or her life for the better. Trust, respect, and person-centered therapy are major components of a good therapeutic relationship

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Assists in establishing and maintaining record keeping in accordance, according to WNC Direct Care policies and procedures in accordance with CARF standards.
  • Promotes and maintains communication with all entities of the IDD members’ daily life.
  • Directly supervises the service the IDD member receives.
  • Strictly maintains IDD members confidentiality.
  • Participate in meetings as needed.
  • Is responsible for member advocacy.
  • Actively creates, coordinates and communicates assigned member individual program plans, goals, implementation, objects, restriction needs, resources and any other information related to WNC Direct Care staff.
  • Monitors, collects and distributes data as appropriate regarding assigned member program plan.
  • Relate to the families of all members in a positive, professional and therapeutic manner. Provide both formal and informal communication with the family.

Education and Training

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Company will provide paid fee training for required certifications of First Aid, CPR, Bloodborne Pathogen, Med Admin and NCI+

Necessary Special Qualifications

  • 18 years of age
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Pass a background check
  • Health Registry
  • Reliable transporation

Special Skills and Abilities

Ability to work effectively with individuals with special needs. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to accurately record data and document observations events in medication. Ability to communicate with other staff and members of the community. Be a flexible team player.

 Safety

Behavior problems, such as aggression of members, and or lifting, could cause bodily injury. WNC Direct Care provides NCI + intervention training to help promote safety for all members and staff in the community.

Working Conditions

Employees are expected to provide services both indoors and outdoors. Exposure to toileting and feeding are based on the needs of the member and communicated to employee prior to assignment. It is important for our team to match the right DSP with the right member.
