The Senior Finance Manager is part of the Finance and Operations team, and must enjoy coaching, developing and/or maintaining processes, and utilizing data while holding true to UWABC’s long-term strategic vision.
Position is responsible for leading all day-to-day accounting operations, with functional responsibility for accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and grants administration. Responsibilities also include production of financial reports; proper maintenance of accounting records; accurate processing of financial transactions; and administration of a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the organization’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), adhere to grants management standards, and result in acceptable audits.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
General Accounting, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable:
- Document and coordinate implementation of accounting systems and accounting control procedures. Improve current processes and implement new systems for general accounting. Make recommendations regarding the accounting of assets, reserves, and expenditures.
- Maintain daily review and control of the following areas: general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivables, expense reports, and billing.
- Ensure that all financial transactions are processed accurately, in a timely manner, and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Develop, implement, and review processes and controls that are current best practices related to transaction processing.
- Manage, oversee, process (as appropriate) revenue, fixed assets, cash, bank reconciliations, and allocations. Act as backup for processing all of the following transactions: accounts payable, expense and credit card management and reconciliation.
- Perform month-end closing procedures, including overhead allocations, account reconciliations, and updating schedules.
- Stock transactions.
- A/R coordination with team (including Collections).
- A/R other sources (contracts for programs/services revenue).
Reports:
- Prepare financial statements and other reports as scheduled, and analyze financial information detailing assets, liabilities and capital to summarize and interpret financial positions.
- Provide and interpret financial reports to managerial staff, recommending further courses of action.
- Prepare, review and distribute monthly reports, funder reports and others to departments.
- Lead on United Way Worldwide annual database survey.
Grant Management:
- Work with project team leaders to comply with funder’s terms and conditions, manage deliverables, monitor spending, request amendments, and plan spend-out.
Budget:
- Assist with the budget annually.
- Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.
Audit:
- Prepare and assist with developing audit schedules for the annual audit.
- Serve as a liaison with auditors to ensure appropriate monitoring of organization finances is maintained.
- Interact with independent auditors, provide support for year-end audit, and assist in the preparation of the IRS Form 990. Gather 990 and 990T information for the annual tax return.
- Monitor compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), United Way Worldwide guidelines, industry best practices, and organization procedures.
- Document and address issues requiring attention and/or further discussion.
Staff Supervision:
- Supervise Finance staff and provide guidance and coaching as needed
