Field Generator Maintenance Technician

Mountain Generator Service Inc. is an established generator service company serving residential and commercial customers throughout Western North Carolina. We specialize in preventive maintenance and repair of backup generator systems, helping our customers stay prepared when power goes out.

The Opportunity
We're seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Generator Maintenance Technician to join our team. This is a hands-on position performing scheduled maintenance on backup generators throughout our service area (within 1-2 hours of Asheville). You'll work independently in the field following established procedures, ensuring our customers' generators are ready when they need them most.

What You'll Do
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on air-cooled and liquid-cooled generators
• Complete oil changes, filter replacements, spark plug service, and battery maintenance
• Conduct thorough visual inspections and identify potential issues
• Test generators and verify proper operation
• Document maintenance thoroughly and communicate findings to customers
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions on properties throughout Western NC's mountainous terrain

Work Schedule
• Regular business hours with occasional overtime
• On-call rotation (one week per month)
• Storm work as needed during major weather events

Location & Service Area
Based in Asheville, NC. Service area extends 1-2 hours in all directions throughout Western North Carolina.

Requirements
• Experience with small engine maintenance and repair
• Basic electrical knowledge and ability to work safely around electrical systems
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record
• Strong attention to detail and excellent customer service skills
• Ability to lift 50-75 lbs and navigate steep terrain
• Comfortable working independently and following established procedures
• High school diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements
This position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions, climbing ladders, navigating steep mountain terrain, and carrying equipment. Must be comfortable working in confined spaces and physically demanding environments.
