Schedule:                    Standard schedule Monday through Friday. Occasional evenings and weekends required based on athletic events, weather conditions and campus needs.

Job Summary 

The Athletic Facilities Manager is responsible for care, maintenance, safety and overall aesthetic presentation of all school athletic fields, turf and athletic facilities. This position ensures that athletic spaces meet appropriate health, safety, and operational standards for daily use, practice and competitive events.

 

The role provides logistical and operational support for athletic events and collaborates closely with the Athletics Department, Facilities and Operations, and other campus stakeholders. The Athletics Facilities Manager may also assist with general campus grounds maintenance as needed. Availability for occasional evenings, weekends and emergency on-call situations is required. A flexible schedule is essential to meet the needs of the school.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Communicate regularly with the Athletics Department regarding seasonal start dates, practice schedule, event calendars and facility needs.
  • Prepare athletic fields, courts and gymnasiums for the start of each athletic season and for scheduled events, including:
    • Lining and marking athletic fields
    • Procuring materials needed
    • Positioning bleachers, team benches and goals
    • General cleaning and presentation of athletic areas

 

  • Perform routine grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, blowing, raking, mulching, dragging fields and weeding to maintain a safe, visually appealing athletic spaces.
  • Conduct trash, debris, stick and leaf removal to ensure fields and surrounding areas remain clear and safe.
  • Maintain athletic signage so it remains plumb, clean, legible and well presented.
  • Monitor the condition of athletic fields and facilities and proactively communicate maintenance needs or safety concerns to the Athletic Director and Director of Grounds.
  • Safely operate and maintain a variety of groundskeeping and facilities equipment and machinery.
  • Maintain organized storage of tools, equipment and materials.
  • Keep accurate service, maintenance and inspection records for equipment and vehicles.
  • Maintain cleanliness and proper operation of all vehicles and equipment used.
  • Provide logistical support for athletic events, including setup, breakdown, traffic flow support and coordination with campus partners.
  • Respond to snow removal, severe weather and other natural events affecting athletic facilities.
  • Recommend improvement to procedures, equipment usage and working conditions to enhance efficiency and safety.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness and risk mitigation planning.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state and school safety regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of campus operations.

 

Skills and Abilities required

  • High school diploma required; post-secondary certificate or coursework in facilities management, groundskeeping or related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in facilities maintenance, groundskeeping or athletic facility management preferred.
  • Strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with faculty, staff, coaches and administrators.
  • Demonstrated initiative and sound judgement in day-to-day decision making.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Commitment to high standards of customer service and professionalism.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures and protocols.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • OSHA safety training and equipment operation certifications

 

 

 

Typical Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms and communicate verbally. Frequently required to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or perform repetitive motions. Occasionally required to climb, balance, and lift or move objects weighing up to 70 pounds. Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain and snow.
